ICT, SOCIETY and SUSTAINABILITY

GQEP's CEO, Engr. Basaen will be the Session Keynote Speaker for ICT, Society and Sustainability in the multi-sectoral international conference to be held on April 24-25, 2008 at the New World Rennaisance Hotel in Makati City, Philippines. The Conference title is, "ICT and Sustainable Development: Leadership, Governance and Innovation in the Knowledge Society".

Conference Objectives:

The conference aims to promote strategic thinking on the value of information and communications technology (ICT) leadership, including the role of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), in fostering sustainable development through public-private partnerships in a rapidly evolving knowledge society. It will gather key leaders and ICT champions from the academe, government, private sector, development agencies, and the international community. The meeting will generate ideas and build collaborative linkages in the areas of training, knowledge sharing, research and development, change management, and policy reform that will contribute to better governance through the innovative use of ICT.

The Conference Chairpersons will be Dr. Francisco A. Magno, Director, La Salle Institute of Governance, De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines and Professor Toshio Obi, Director, Institute of e-Government, Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan.

The Conference Partners/Sponsors are, namely:

* The La Salle Institute of Governance is a research and training unit at De la Salle University-Manila. The e-Leadership and Development Innovations Program of LSIG undertakes projects concerned with identifying competency requirements and building capacities to harness information and communications technology for local governance and development.

* International Academy of Chief Information Officers (IAC) which undertakes ICT projects of the APEC. With chapters around the world, the International Academy of Chief Information Officers seeks to introduce an international standard for the CIO position by establishing academic networks, facilitating exchange of information and ideas, and fostering the development of best practices in CIO operations, CIO councils, and e-Government. IAC is undertaking a project supported by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to deploy the Government Chief Information Officer (GCIO) Training Model in participating APEC economies. The project also aims to establish a network of CIO training institutes and e-Government research centers.

* Asian Center for Information Technology and Telecommunications (ACITT), a private organization dedicated to the pursuit of quality research, publication, and training for the complete development and growth of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) professionals.

* Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), the primary policy, planning, coordinating, implementing, regulating, and administrative entity of the executive branch of the Philippine government that seeks to promote, develop, and regulate integrated and strategic ICT systems and reliable cost-efficient communication facilities and services. http://www.cict.gov.ph

* The Swedish Program for Information and Communications Technology in Developing Regions (SPIDER). The Swedish Program for Information and Communication Technology in Developing Regions is a national entity created to unify knowledge resources and make them available to developing countries. Behind the program stands Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, where SPIDER is also hosted.
